Discover the world of bats as Wakehurst comes alive after hours, guided by our resident wildlife expert.
Choose between two immersive experiences: the woodland bat walk, which takes you down to serene Westwood Lake, or the shorter, accessible garden bat walk, centered around the peaceful Mansion Pond. The woodland walk covers approximately 4 km on a steady path, with an uphill return for those who enjoy a bit of a climb.
Your evening begins with a talk by experienced surveyor Tara Dawson, who will introduce you to the bat species that inhabit these gardens, explaining their behaviours, habitats, and how Wakehurst supports their needs.
Equipped with electronic detectors, we’ll listen for the ultrasonic calls of hunting bats as we explore, and you’ll also learn about the many birds, insects, and other creatures that call Wakehurst home.
