When starting a single page website, one of your first decisions is which platform to use.

There are lots of different options but our first choice is always WordPress. It’s the best platform for creating any type of website and we have built our entire business around it.

WordPress is easy to use and set up. It is also free. You will only need to pay for web hosting and a domain name, both of which can cost as little as $5 per month.

WordPress is also a great choice if you’re new to building websites. It has a large community and you’re sure to find videos, tutorials, and guides for any issues you might face.

Now let’s get to our step by step guide on how to create a one page website.

First we’ll tackle domain name and hosting. Then we’ll install WordPress and the Astra theme.

Finally, we’ll set everything up so you have a fully functional one page website.

Let’s get to it.

Step 1: Select a Domain Name and Web Host

The first step towards creating a one page website is setting up web hosting and a domain name.

We suggest using SiteGround as they offer a top-tier service.

To get started, you’ll need to select a suitable hosting plan.

For your domain name, we suggest coming up with a name that’s easy to remember and relevant to your business.

Most hosting plans also include domain registration so you can take care of both at once.

The last setup step involves entering the login details to your hosting service and the billing details.

Once complete, you will have a domain name and web hosting for your one page website!

Step 2: Install WordPress

The next step involves installing WordPress and building the actual website.

Once you sign up with your hosting plan, you land on the site set up page.

We’ll continue using SiteGround for the example, but most web hosts will use a similar process.

Once you have bought a domain name and hosting, you should see the following page:

• Select the option to Start New Website
• Choose WordPress as your application
• Enter the login credentials for your website
• Click on the Continue button

The system will set up WordPress and make everything ready. You can then log in with the credentials you provided.

Most web hosts offer one click WordPress installation. If they don’t, you can manually set up a WordPress website using this guide.

Step 3: Install a One Page Theme and Essential Plugins

Once you have WordPress installed and set up, you can start building your website.

You have the option to change the colors and fonts of your website in this area.

In the last step, you’ll be asked to tell a little about yourself and join the Astra newsletter. Enter your personal details in the form if you like.

Click the Submit & Build My Website button

The system imports all the essential plugins and resources to finish importing the template on your website.

Click on the View Your Website button to see what the site looks like

Your website should look exactly the same as the template.

While a website template gives you the essential features, you’ll need to customize it to make it fit your brand.

To customize the homepage content and elements:

Service Section

The service section is exactly the same.

Select the layout and customize the text, description, and image as required

FAQ Section

If your default demo template doesn’t have a FAQ section, you have the option to add it using a block.

To add the FAQ section on a single page website:

Click on the ‘+’ icon where you would like to add it

Select the file icon to add a new section

Search for FAQ in the block section

Decide upon a suitable block and add it to your website

Now, you can add suitable questions and answers to the block as you see fit.

Contact Section

No one page website would be complete without a contact form. Let’s do that next.

• Navigate to the contact section on the page and select the edit option
• Edit all the information with your business details
• Update to save the changes

Once you’re done with the blocks contained within the template, you can add more by dragging a block from the left menu onto the page.

You can then select the block and use the settings menu to make your changes. It’s easy!

Step 5: Publish Your Website

The last step in the process is to publish your one page website so people can see it online.

We suggest giving it a thorough check before you publish. Check for typos, ensure all your links work, check if your contact form works and that all images and features look right.

What Are Nulled Plugins?

First, a little background.

Nulled WordPress plugins are usually pirated version of premium products. They are frequently available on download sites and via bit torrent.

The motives for offering nulled plugins vary. It can be to distribute premium products to ‘stick it to the man’ or there can be more nefarious reasons.

A darker motive to distribute nulled plugins is because they can include a secret backdoor, malware and/or malicious code.

This code can provide access to a hacker, inject code or poisoned ads into your website or steal customer data.

Not all plugins include malicious code.

But, unless you’re a developer and are willing to scour the code looking for it, you’ll never know until it’s too late.

How To Recognize a Nulled Plugin

With so many outlets offering so many WordPress plugins, how do you know which is nulled or not?

Nulled plugins available as bit torrents or via social media are unlikely to be the real deal.

Sometimes files are named ‘Nulled’ to let you know what you’re getting. Often there’s no way of knowing.

The only way to be sure you’re not downloading a nulled plugin is to use legitimate sources. Go directly to the developer, use WordPress.org or a reliable plugin marketplace.

It’s the only way to be sure.

Why Nulled Plugins Are a Bad Idea – 8 Reasons

Nulled plugins are a bad idea full stop. The reasons shouldn’t matter, if a plugin is stolen, it’s stolen.

But if you want to get into specifics, here are 8 reasons why nulled plugins are a bad idea:

1. Security Risks

Security is a prime risk of using nulled WordPress plugins. Unless you can check every line of code, you have no idea what hidden extras are included with the plugin or the vulnerabilities you’re introducing into your website.

Here are some stats to help make our point:

• On average 30,000 new websites are hacked every day.
• WordPress security plugin WordFence blocked 4.3 billion attempts to exploit vulnerabilities from over 9.7 million unique IP addresses in 2020.
• Google’s Safe Browsing service blacklists up to 70,000 websites each day for malware infection or phishing scams.
• 52% of attacks happen because of plugins.

Not all these stats can be attributed to nulled plugins. But if your website is being constantly attacked, why add another vulnerability into the mix?

2. Risk to Privacy

The risk to privacy is similar to security but has its own set of outcomes. Being hacked is bad enough, but the reputation damage involved in a data breach can be terminal.

Nulled plugins can often include a backdoor, code inserted into the plugin that grants secret access to a hacker.

We don’t say this to scare you, but to reinforce the message that nulled plugins can be the cause of data breaches on websites.

According to IBM Security, the average time to detect and manage a data breach in 2021 was 287 days.

Imagine just how much data you could lose in that time! Even if you don’t keep much data, once a hacker has access to your website, they can do whatever they like.

3. It’s (usually) Theft

Because the code used in WordPress plugins is partly or wholly licensed under GPL (General Public License) some people think it’s okay to offer it for free.

That completely ignores all the code added by developers and the resources taken to create the plugin.

That’s not even getting into the time and effort spent testing for compatibility, updating it to keep it current and supporting the plugin.

The issue of GPL licensing is complicated and not a reason to steal.

It comes down to a simple choice. Steal from developers and you’re reducing the income required to continue developing and improving products. It’s a zero sum game.

4. An Unsafe Flag From Google Can Ruin Your SEO

We would like to refer you back to the Google statistic above:

• Google’s Safe Browsing service blacklists up to 70,000 websites each day for malware infection or phishing scams.

Google Safe Browsing helps protect Chrome, Android, search, Gmail and Google Ads.

You don’t need us to tell you how being flagged by the world’s largest search engine will impact your SEO…

Using a nulled theme or plugin that includes malicious code could risk you being added to this list.

If your site is flagged as unsafe, there is a procedure to have it reviewed but you’ll need to clean the site and request a review via Google Search Console.

It’s simple enough but isn’t fast and won’t magically restore your SEO ranking.

5. You Don’t Know the Motive

Understanding motive is key to understanding risk. If you know why someone does something, you can have a fair idea of how much risk it poses.

There’s no way to know the motive of someone offering nulled WordPress plugins. They might say they are doing it for the good of mankind, but can you trust them? Would you trust your website to them?

Even if there’s a slight doubt about their motivation, you should tread extremely carefully. We would say it’s too much of a risk, especially when there are more reliable alternatives.

6. Lack of Updates

Updates are a key aspect of WordPress, themes and plugins. As WordPress core is developed and improved, themes and plugins are developed to keep up.

Nulled themes and plugins have no such development.

Outdated plugins are one of the most common vulnerabilities in WordPress. Not only are you potentially introducing vulnerabilities when using nulled plugins, you’re also adding more as soon as it becomes outdated.

Not only that, but some core updates to WordPress will also change the way it works. Without an update, your plugin essentially becomes useless.

7. No Support

Sometimes, even the most experienced user needs a little help. The more complex the plugin, the more likely it is you’ll need assistance.

While forums and FAQs can help, there’s nothing like live chat or human support to help answer your questions or help configure your plugin.

Often, it’s that support that makes the price worth paying.

Some developers require you to register a product key to access forums and documentation so you’ll really struggle to get help in that situation.

8. Developers Need To Eat

Developers need to eat, drink coffee and need electricity to keep laptops charged.

We are being purposely light-hearted here, but this is a serious point.

You could pay for the legit version of the plugin you want or you could look for a free alternative.

Elementor has a perfectly good free version but it limits the number and type of tools you can use. Nulled premium versions of Elementor are available but we wouldn’t recommend them.

There really is no need to use a nulled premium theme when you have a free option this good!

Spectra Forms Block Instead of a Nulled Form Plugin

Forms are an essential part of a website so it may be tempting to use a nulled form plugin. Don’t.

If you use the Spectra website builder, you’ll find a forms block included with the free version so you don’t even need a plugin!

If you don’t want to use Spectra, use a free option like WPForms Lite instead. Unless you want to create complex or multi-step forms, the free version should deliver everything you need for engagement.

WordFence Instead of a Nulled Premium Security Plugin

Why would you trust a hacked version of a plugin to protect your website from hackers? That’s something we would strongly recommend against, especially when there are decent free options.

Rather than use a nulled plugin, use WordFence or other free option instead.

Free options usually include all the basic tools you need to protect your website at no cost.

Yoast Free SEO Instead of a Nulled SEO Plugin

SEO plugins range from free to expensive and we understand the temptation to use a nulled version. Why bother when there are some excellent free options?

A great free SEO plugin is Yoast. There’s a feature-rich free version as well as a paid option. The free is more than enough to get you started and is the one we recommend using.

You can stay with the free version or upgrade when you’re ready to. It’s entirely up to you.

When we talk about homepage banners we are referring to those usually colorful and attention-grabbing images that you see above the fold of a page or shop you’re visiting.

You don’t have to scroll to see them and they will usually contain a button or link so you can encourage action with as little effort as possible.

They are often placed in prime positions as in this example from eBuyer.

Other eCommerce stores like Amazon or Aliexpress use promotion banners all the time.

Banners might also appear on the sidebar of your site in a square or vertical format.

If you visit websites that use advertising networks such as The Moneytizer or Adsense you’ll see lots of different promotion banner design examples.

Here’s an example of how Amazon uses banners to promote their own products.

They may be referred to as homepage banners but you could place them anywhere you like!

Promotional Banner Use-cases

If you have looked closely at the examples above you might have noticed that promotional banners are mainly used for temporary promotions like Black Friday, Christmas sales or special deals.

These are usually sales-focused, although you could also create banners to promote a giveaway, showcase a new product, announce an event or invite the visitor to take action.

They are a great way to give a different look to your website without having to change the whole design.

Seeing a Christmas banner in an online store in December is like seeing Christmas decorations in a physical shop.

It puts you in the mood, it shows that the store is up to date and that there is someone behind it who cares about you having a better shopping experience.

TIP: Banners ideally need to be rotated in order to make an impact on recurring users.

The one reason you’ll find banners everywhere is because they work.

Whether it’s to promote a seasonal sale or highlight a new product, banners provide a simple but effective way to draw attention and funnel the visitor.

How To Create and Add a Banner in WordPress (With Free Tools)

There are two main steps to add a promo banner to your website.

1. Create the promo banner design
2. Embed it on your website

Step 1 : Create the Promotional Banner Design

If you’re promoting other companies’ products as an affiliate they will usually provide you with ready-to-use creatives.

At least that’s what we do in our Astra affiliate program. You can download banner images or embed them within your site by using the HTML code.

If you’re promoting your own products, you’ll need to create the banners yourself.

If you have a design background you’ll probably already have a tool. If not, we recommend using beginner-oriented software such as Adobe Express or Canva.

They are very easy to use and will offer templates to help you start designing faster.

For this example we’ll use Canva.

Sign up and use the search box to find the type of design you want to create.

Or you can start from scratch if you’re confident enough!

Canva has a lot of design tools to intuitively modify the banner to suit your needs.

Once you’re happy with the result click on the Share button to download the image.

You can use the image as is, or use an embed code.

Canva offers the option to embed the image, similar to some affiliate programs.

But it embeds a frame with some extra options that can slow down your site a bit. You’re also limited where you can link to.

We would recommend using the standard image rather than the code to maintain website performance and link wherever you like.

Step 2: Display the Banner on Your Site

Now it’s time to show that neat promo banner you’ve just created!

First of all, upload the banner image to your WordPress media library and copy the file URL.

Copy it as you’ll need it very soon!

Now, from your WordPress Admin Panel install and activate Astra Hooks.

This is a free and useful plugin that will let you add code to any part of your site.

To help you out figuring out all the available places we’ve created a visual hook guide.

Write down the name of the place where you’d like to embed your promotional banner.

astra_primary_content_top might be a good spot.

How To Add a Banner in WordPress (Without Code)

There is another method to create and add a promotional banner to your website.

Astra has also grown in popularity with solopreneurs and DIY website builders. So much so that we were frequently being asked if we could offer a single website or 10 website plans.

Considering all these things, we decided it was time to modernize pricing and packages to make them more relevant to our extensive family of diverse users.

We had three keywords in mind when planning the change: flexibility, affordability, and relevance.

Let’s see what’s new!

TL;DR:

Our valued existing subscribers, The new plans do not affect existing customers. The new pricing and plans only impact new purchases. Your journey with Astra Pro, Essential Bundle, and Growth Bundle stays seamless, and no action is required on your part.

1. We Have Introduced 1 Site, 10 Site and 1000 Site Licenses

This change will bring the much needed flexibility that our customers often ask for.

You can select the number of sites you want to use Astra on the purchase screen so you can tailor it to your exact needs.

There’s no need to pay for licenses you don’t need and more flexibility than ever before to make Astra fit your specific requirements.

2. We No Longer Offer Unlimited Site Licenses

Unlimited licenses worked both for us and against us. It offered a lot of flexibility to some agency customers, which we liked. But some users were reselling their licenses, which we didn’t like so much.

Policing licenses is a challenge and not something we wanted to get into. That’s why we decided to replace unlimited licenses with multiple license options.

The ability to choose 1, 10 or 1000 site licenses means every type of user can select the option that’s right for them.

Agencies and professionals still get the same peace of mind as before with no decision making dilemma. Individual users and DIY website builders also get a great deal at a competitive price.

Analysis of our hundreds of thousands of customers over the past 6 years, show only 6 have ever used more than 1000 licenses. Only 3% of those have ever used more than 200.

That means 97% of Astra users have never activated more than 200 sites.

While it may seem like a big change, the actual number of customers it will impact is very minimal.

3. Reimagining Bundles for Maximum Relevance

When we introduced our growth bundle in 2017, it included just 4 products:

• Spectra Pro, which was released only recently. It’s a lightweight page builder based on the WordPress block editor. It is currently used by over 600,000 people and is rapidly growing in popularity.

As you can imagine, some of the products in the bundle may not feel relevant to everyone.

For example, not everyone uses Beaver Builder. It’s not as popular now as it was when we developed Ultimate Addons for Beaver Builder.

• When we released Schema Pro, there was only 1 SEO plugin, Yoast. It didn’t offer any schema features at the time, so we filled a niche. Now there are few SEO plugin options such as Rank Math, AIOSEO, Yoast and SEOPress to name a few.

All offer schema features that would fit the basic needs of many users. Schema Pro is still great for advanced implementation, but not everyone needs it as most SEO plugins offer at least some basic schema features.

• WP Portfolio did not get the traction we thought it would. People prefer showing a portfolio with images using page builder blocks.
• When Convert Pro launched, there were no page builders that offered popup functionality. Now most do. We even have popup building features in Spectra Pro (Which we will keep developing).

As we felt these products were not offering the value they once did in the bundles, we decided to not include them anymore.

We have spent quite a lot of time playing around with it over the past few days.

The new version gets lots of great improvements for easy website management.

It is now smoother and more polished. It’s become far more advanced compared to the classic editor days.

New: Improved Site Editor

The headline feature of WordPress 6.4 is the upgraded Site Editor.

There’s a new Templates and Patterns menu and the ability to customize navigation without having to switch to the Menus screen.

Getting started with the Site Editor is straightforward, but mastering it might take a bit of time.

As long as you have a compatible block theme installed, you have some new screens to experiment with.

You can enter Site Editor from Appearance > Editor and get a high-level view of your theme and make sitewide changes.

You’ll see a black menu on your left with your main options. Select the one and you’ll move to the respective page.

To go back, click the small arrow icon until you return to the main Site Editor screen.

For instance, click on Styles and you’ll access the default style palette in use for your theme.

Similarly, select Pages and you’ll see a list of every published page on your website. Clicking one takes you to the page editor.

Block Editor’s New Features

When you start editing a page, the editing screen will look familiar. It operates quite similarly to before, but now there are a couple of extra perks.

Lightbox effect, fixed template for images, vertical text, and query loop pagination are the new additions for content creators and developers.

The blocks transition smoothly, giving you the freedom to adjust, move, or add content as you wish.

Now, let’s dive in to know what’s new.

Lightbox effect

You might be familiar with the lightbox effect used for images in various plugins and themes. It’s now part of WordPress 6.4!

You can apply this effect easily in the block editor.

When an image is selected on your page, head over to the right sidebar settings. There, you’ll find a toggle called Expand on click.

If you want the lightbox effect, just flip this toggle on.

On the front end, when you hover the mouse over the image, you’ll spot a zoom icon. Click on it and the image expands smoothly using the lightbox effect.

To return to the original size, click the image once more or hit the ‘X’ in the top right corner.

Remember, this feature isn’t activated automatically. You’ll need to enable it for each image you want the lightbox effect on, even in galleries.

Background Images in Group Blocks

Now, you can spice up group blocks with a background image.

Start by picking the group you want from the List View.

This action will also open up the related settings in the sidebar on your right.

Next, head over to the Style tab. Look for the Background option and click on it.

From there, you can either choose an image from your media library or upload one directly from your computer.

If you change your mind, there’s a Reset option available to remove the added image.

Placeholder Image Ratio

Placeholder images can now keep a specific aspect ratio locked in place, which is handy when creating image templates on your page.

Let’s walk through an example. You’ve got a block on your page with an image inside that has a standard 4:3 aspect ratio.

Start by removing the image, then click the ‘+’ sign to add an image block again.

When you select the image block to add an image, you’ll see the aspect ratio field appear in the right sidebar.

From the drop-down list, choose a different aspect ratio than the original image. For instance, let’s select a Portrait 3:4 aspect ratio here to demonstrate how the locked aspect ratio works.

Now, add an image that has a different aspect ratio from the one set for your placeholder. For our example, the image is sized at 1920×1310 pixels.

You’ll notice the image gets cropped neatly to fit the aspect ratio we’ve set. This means you’ve created a template with a fixed aspect ratio

Whenever you add an image in this placeholder, it’ll disregard the image’s original aspect ratio and adjust automatically to match the set value

Vertical text

In WordPress 6.4, you’ve got the ability to switch up your text’s orientation. It’s a handy tool for various needs, especially if you’re after an artistic touch.

To make this change for a paragraph block, head over to the Typography options in the right sidebar.

Click the three-dot menu for more choices. Within that menu, you’ll spot Text orientation.

This will show you two orientation buttons. Click on the vertical orientation button to see how it alters the text.

Query Loop Pagination Improvements

The upgraded pagination feature within the Query Loop block is quite noteworthy.

Currently, moving between two pages in the Query Loop block triggers a complete page refresh. However, in version 6.4, this issue has been addressed.

Here’s how you can do it:

• Simply click on the Query Loop block.
• Then, go to the settings sidebar, scroll down a bit, and below the Sticky posts option, you’ll find Enhanced pagination.
• Activate this feature, update your settings, and preview the page in a new tab.

Now, when you navigate to the next page, you’ll notice that the page no longer reloads.

Block Hooks

Block hooks are a new developer feature that allows you to ‘hook’ a function into a block.

Inspired by the hooks in WordPress core APIs, block hooks enable developers to dynamically extend blocks.

This means plugins can introduce their unique options to a block. Users will then see these additional options in the block settings panel, giving them the ability to toggle these options on or off.

Workflow Improvements

In WordPress 6.4, we see a lot of improvements in workflows that make day-to-day website maintenance, admin tasks, and content management easier.

Here are the updates:

Improved Command Palette

The Command Palette is a shortcut for common commands within the WordPress editor and was initially released in WordPress 6.3.

This updated version is more usable as the text is darker and there are some new keyboard shortcuts.

Hit ⌘+k on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows or select the new menu at the top of the edit screen and you’ll see a popup with search.

Type anything into that to see relevant commands. For example, type ‘page’ and you’ll see all possible page commands you can use.

Select an option and you’ll be taken immediately to that resource, whether it’s a new page, the edit screen or elsewhere.

Style Revisions

Revisions are one of the most useful parts of a page builder and another reason Elementor is so popular.

WordPress 6.4 now joins the party with Revisions.

Look at the bottom of the left pane in your Site Editor, you’ll see a blue Revisions or Review 1 change… button.

What you see will depend on whether you have made any changes and how many you made.

Click the blue button and a popup will show you recent changes and ask you if you want to save them.

Image Preview

In WordPress 6.4, finding images within the List View (a.k.a Document Overview) is now simpler.

This is super handy, especially if you’ve got loads of images on a page and need to quickly spot a specific one with the help of a small preview.

Rename Groups

Now, managing your groups is easier with more descriptive names. You can rename your group now in the List View to whatever suits you.

For instance, if a group has ‘about us’ information, you can name the group likewise to spot it quickly.

To rename a group, pick the one you want in the list view, click the three-dot icon, and select Rename from the menu. Then, type in the new name and hit Save.

Toolbar Improvement

This looks like a minor improvement that might go unnoticed but we believe it will have a significant impact on your workflow.

In WordPress 6.4, the toolbar is now consistent for parent and child blocks such as quotes, navigation, and lists.

No matter if it’s the main content or the secondary cite block, the toolbar stays in the same spot.

It’s a subtle tweak, but it significantly enhances the user experience. Let’s check its impact on a list item.

Open Link in New Tab

Many users like to open links in new tabs. It saves them from leaving the current page.

In WordPress 6.4 website admins can decide if a link on the page should open in a new tab or the current one.

Now, whenever you add a link anywhere on the page, you’ll notice a link preview and a checkbox underneath. Check the box and the link will open in a new tab for users.

Attachment Pages Disabled

Starting with WordPress 6.4, attachment pages won’t be activated by default. This resolves a long-standing issue in WordPress sites.

Previously, when you uploaded attachments (images), WordPress automatically generated pages that showed the file and its description. Search engines indexed those pages which impacted your site’s SEO.

To fix this, users relied on SEO plugins like All in One SEO or Rank Math to disable attachment pages and guide users back to the original post.

While this change will apply to new sites, older sites built before WordPress 6.4 will continue to function as they did.

If you want to disable attachment pages on your website, you can implement the following custom code.

update_option( ‘wp_attachment_pages_enabled’, 0 );

Pattern Personalization and Customization

Block Patterns have been a key benefit of Spectra and Elementor for a while now. The feature was added to WordPress in version 6.3 but is now much better.

Here are some of the improvements and new features added to patterns in WordPress 6.4:

Categorize Patterns

You can now organize (categorize) your custom block patterns for better management across your site. It’s like having your own toolbox filled with your favorite patterns, ready to be reused whenever you need them.

One easy way is to do it from within the list view.

Click on the three-dot menu at the edge of a group or parent column to open the menu.

Next, select the Create Pattern option to open a box where you can set a pattern category name and choose from available categories.

WordPress has default categories to help you categorize your patterns easily. You can also create your own category name.

Add multiple categories if needed and click Create once you’re done.

Remember to turn off the Synced option, which we’ll discuss next.

Whenever you want to use this pattern on another page, go to Block Inserter > Patterns to find the folder named My Pattern where your custom patterns are stored.

You’ll see these specific patterns in each category you selected while creating them, like the Services category in our example.

Import and Export Patterns

WordPress users now have the ability to share patterns across multiple websites. To do this, you’ll export your preferred pattern as a JSON file and import it into any other website you desire.

Here’s how you can do it:

Open the site editor by going to Appearance > Editor and clicking on Patterns in the left sidebar.

Next, go to My Patterns to view your saved patterns. Click the three-dot menu button and select Export as JSON to save the file on your computer.

When you are on a different website, open the site editor and go to patterns.

Click the ‘+’ button at the top left and select the Import pattern from JSON to bring in the desired pattern.

That’s it! You’ve now successfully created a pattern on one website and imported it to another.

Note: Sometimes, the styling of the imported pattern may not match exactly on the new website. In such cases, you can manually customize the pattern to suit your preferences.

Synchronize Patterns

We’ve long used global settings in page builders like Spectra and Elementor. Now, from WordPress version 6.4, this feature is part of the default WordPress offerings.

Remember the Synced option we talked about while creating patterns? It allows you to create a pattern that updates globally wherever it’s used.

Let’s revisit the page editor and create a pattern from the list view just like before. This time, keep Synced enabled, which is the default setting for all patterns.

When you make changes to this pattern, the changes automatically apply everywhere it’s used.

Another way to tweak a pattern is through the pattern editor.

Go to Appearance > Editor and select Patterns. Then, at the bottom of the left sidebar, click Manage all of my patterns to access them.

From there, open the pattern you want to edit (like ‘Global Call to Action’ in our case).

Any changes you make here will update all copies of that pattern you’ve created.

Add Buttons to Navigation Bar

From WordPress 6.4, adding buttons to your navigation bar becomes easier, even for noncoders!

For instance, let’s say you want to add a signup button. Here’s how in a few simple steps:

• Open the page template to access the navigation block.
• Click within the navigation block to reveal the black ‘+’ sign. No need to click it.
• Head to the right sidebar under the navigation menu items and hit the blue ‘+’ block inserter button.
• Choose the button item and customize its appearance as desired.

Twenty Twenty Four Theme

WordPress 6.4 introduces the new default theme, Twenty Twenty Four.

Similar to its predecessors, it’s a sleek block theme, but this time it offers a bit more.

When you open it in the Site Editor and go to Styles in the menu, you can preview different looks using presets.

Choosing a style instantly updates the appearance. Once you find a style you like, hit the blue Save button at the bottom left.

While few will actually use Twenty Twenty Four for a live site, it’s a great way to explore what WordPress 6.4 offers.

It’s one of the most practical default themes we’ve seen so far.

Theme Preview

In WordPress 6.4, theme preview gets a mention as a minor update, but it’s actually pretty handy.

Instead of activating a theme to see how it looks, now you can preview it right in the Site Editor.

This allows you to check it out, and decide what works, and what doesn’t before making it your active theme.

For those who enjoy experimenting with themes, this is a major time-saver!

To try it, head to Appearance > Themes.

Hover over a theme you’re interested in and click the blue Live Preview at the bottom of the theme block to load the preview window.

If it’s an inactive theme, you’ll also spot a blue Activate button at the bottom left to set it as your default theme.

Convenient, right?

Other Improvements in WordPress 6.4

WordPress 6.4 introduces 170+ performance updates to help improve page load time across the board. Here are some worth mentioning updates:

• Admin notices function: WordPress 6.4 introduces two functions for admin notices instead of using the old approach of blending HTML and PHP codes.
• Split queries in object caching: This feature helps WordPress break down complex queries into smaller, more efficient ones. This significantly improves website speed.
• More accessibility: Over 50 accessibility improvements include better labeling, better navigation, revised headings, and new controls for the image editor to help people navigate better.
• Footnotes block: If you want to add annotations to pages and posts, you can use the new Footnotes block.
• Details block: The new Details block allows you to add expandable content sections for FAQs or to combine short and long answers within the same section.
• PHP Recommended Versions: WordPress relies on PHP for its working. You are suggested to use PHP 8.1 or 8.2 on your server for WordPress 6.4 to work smoothly.
• Template Loading Improvement: The newest version comes with several improvements in loading templates to make things faster and more efficient for both WordPress developers and users. These upgrades include Reduced file lookups and file system access, Optimized block template lookups, and Improved error handling.

The Astra Theme and Other BSF Products

As there are no big structural changes to WordPress in this update, there will be no big changes to the Astra theme or other Brainstorm Force products.

We will, of course, be thoroughly testing Astra and every Starter Template to make sure it works flawlessly with the new update.

We will be making sure Spectra still works at its best and every product we make will be thoroughly and exhaustively tested.

That includes SureCart, SureMembers, SureTriggers, SureWriter, CartFlows, Presto Player, ProjectHuddle, WPPortfolio, and all the other plugins and products we create.

Rest assured, if you use any product created by Brainstorm Force, we’ll make sure it will work perfectly with WordPress 6.4!
