Submit your YELA evidence portfolio
A guide to submitting your Young Environmental Leader Award evidence portfolio and how it will be assessed.
What is an evidence portfolio?
You will need to gather and submit an evidence portfolio to demonstrate your abilities in each of the leadership dimensions. At the end of your project, you will need to submit your evidence portfolio together with your project plan, mood board or mind map and communication plan.
When you're ready to submit your evidence portfolio email yela@kew.org with the required information and attachments.
Submission checklist
Use the checklists below to make sure that you have completed everything before submitting your evidence portfolio:

If you are working in a group you will submit some evidence collectively. There will also be evidence that each group member will need to submit individually.
We recommend you read the assessment criteria to make sure you understand what you need to do to achieve the award.
It’s a good idea to complete the evidence portfolio as your project progresses to make sure you don’t find yourself in a frantic scramble at the end to find everything.
Although not compulsory, we welcome photographs of your project (please remember to ask everyone for their consent).
Downloadable resources linked to each dimension are available to guide and support you in developing your leadership skills and project.
At the end of your project, you will need to submit your evidence portfolio. Use the submission checklists to make sure you have completed everything you need.
Individuals completing the Young Environmental Leader Award are responsible for the submission of their own evidence portfoilo.
Groups completing the Young Environmental Leader Award will have sections to complete as a group and individuals.
One person in your group could collate and submit all parts of the evidence portfoilio, or each member might take responsibility for submitting their contributions. Whatever you choose make sure to communicate and confirm with your group in advance.
All projects will be assessed by Kew experts in learning and science. If we think further evidence is needed to achieve the award, we will contact you and your supporting organisation.
You will hear back from Kew as soon as possible, within two months of submitting your evidence portfolio.
You will receive recognition of your award and we encourage you to celebrate your success with your supporting organisation. The award is non-competitive and everyone who succeeds receives the award and a personalised certificate.
